Holiday Drive 2016

June 18, 2016

By Ron Helmeid

There were 29 cars participating in the drive. There were a number of first time drivers for a drive event like this. Holiday Mazda hosted the gathering point at their dealership; provided parking close to the building, a registration table, an employee to assist with waiver and dinner signups, a light lunch (various sub sandwich choices, a small salad, a dessert and refreshments). The comments received were all positive with all that Holiday Mazda provided. Thank you Holiday Mazda.

A drivers meeting was conducted under the display canopy prior to the lunch. Bob Ring filled in for me for this part of the event. Comments from the Holiday people and club members indicated Bob handled all of this admirably. Due to a heat related emergency, Bob Ring led the group for the first leg of the drive as well. The 1st leg traveled through Eden, Elmore, some Rustic Roads and ended in Lomira for a break.

I was able to rejoin the group for the 2nd leg and led them through Campbellsport, Waucousta, Dundee, Armstrong and Beechwood and ending in New Prospect. The Kettle Moraine Drive Road was welcomed due to the cooler air temperature through the tree covered road way. We passed a number of small lakes as well. We were a little early at The Woodland Creek supper club, but everyone seemed to enjoy the extra time before dinner was served at 4:50. The group was seated at 4 or 5 large tables near the back of the dining room, and judging from the volume level of the conversation, it appeared to have worked as a very good arrangement.

The family style dinner was very good, I heard no complaints, only compliments. Jessie and her staff provided excellent service. Most people were done and on their way home by 6:00.

I believe it was a fun day for all, and it was a terrific group of people attending the event.
